Storybook Adventures may be over for the season but behind the scenes there is still a lot going on. Back in July we announced that we had won the Preservation on Main Street Award in the Celebrating Main Street category which recognizes outstanding events that celebrate Main Street and helps build its base. This program is one we love because it gives families an extra reason to come to our downtown during the summer which can be a slow time for small businesses. Kids can meet the author of locally written children’s books and the first 20 families at each event receive a free copy of the book. Beyond being something fun to do we love that we are encouraging literacy at a young age.
The St. Cloud Veterans Library and Friends of the Library have been supporters of this event from the beginning. The library asked about setting up a Storybook Adventures section of the library so families that didn’t know about the event in previous years could still read the books from local authors that we had featured. St. Cloud Main Street donated copies of each book that we had leftover from these events to the library for this little section. We are excited to be able to share these books with the community and help our library grow their offerings a little bit at a time. In the coming weeks be sure to stop by the St. Cloud Veterans Library children’s section on the second floor to find these books plus so many more!
