Four Point Approach

Years of Success

During the past seven years, St. Cloud Main Street Program has formed a successful Board of Directors, four key committees, and several sub committees. Over the years we as a non profit organization have built a large number of members, sponsors, and volunteers.

The Promotions Committee first started with producing events such as Who wants to be an Osceola Millionaire, William Lamb the Horoscope Man, and Sun Cruz Casino. Although each of these events were successful we opted to create a series of events that would occur on a regular basis. Two of our events are Gospel Sing; and Smoke n Blues, Bikes, and BBQ, each of these are annual events. Also, we have the Friday Night Live Series, which occurs the second Friday of each month from May to September. Each Friday Night Live has its' own theme, some have a contest such as karaoke or motorcycle. Promotion is also responsible for our monthly newsletter and downtown promotional activities. Each of these projects are a great way to bring our community together and they offer us fundraising opportunities.

The Economic Restructuring Committee formed in May of 2000. Through the years we have worked our way to being able to offer our program area merchants Facade Grants. Facade Grants allow us to assist the merchants financially to restore their buildings; an example would be things such as awnings, windows, signs. Recently we received approval to expand our program area to include the residential neighborhood and lakefront. We hope to be able to assist the residents as we do the businesses. Another project we are working on would be the Arts Incubator; our goal with this project is to bring arts and culture to our downtown area. In addition to our ongoing projects, this committee has been working to create a gateway for downtown St. Cloud. Through community support and grant funds, this project should be complete by June of 2009.

The Design Committee also formed in May of 2000. We started with assisting businesses to upgrade their building at no cost. Now days we are working on many projects. One project would be our murals. There were a total of twelve murals picked out such as the fire of 1917, which were to be placed on buildings that were site selected throughout our program area. Nine murals are now completed, and the tenth is soon to be in progress. Another current project is pocket gardens throughout the downtown which will feature sitting and picnic areas with landscaping. Maintenance on the gardens will include projects such as watering barrels, volunteer program and partnerships with local businesses. Additional efforts from this committee will include history walks and a historic coloring book.

The Organization Committee formed in June of 2000. Through hard work we have built a large number of memberships and continue to build our memberships along with recruiting new volunteers. This committee is responsible for organizing events such as our Annual Membership Meeting, and weekly Farmer’s Market. They will also be coordinating a Human Checker Game as part of our Centennial Celebration.
